Hi just got a leather sofa (maybe a bad idea with cats) but how can I stop
my two cats clawing/treading the sofa.
They mostly do it when we are not in the house, they have the run of the
house and get in and out via a cat flap.
The old sofa was not marked much because if their claws went through the
material you could just rub it and the hole went away, the leather seems to
have puncture holes :(

Thanks in advance

Do you have an acceptable scratching alternative in the room? I have lots of
scratching posts and pads (really good ones). I have leather sofas and
chairs and Thomasville case goods and no problems. If you're looking for
really good scratching alternatives you need to go to the web. Check out

Thanks for that site, yeah they have their own armchair which they lay on
and scratch in the dining room, but they seem to like coming in and
scratching the new one!

Pick up a cat tree for the same room as the leather couch. Optimally, there
should be an allowable scratching surface in every room of your home where
the cats are allowed. They like to have their scents all over stuff. If they
continue to prefer the leather sofa, you can try double sided tape in the
areas they tend to scratch. It's a terrible sensation for them, and most
cats will learn to leave those spots alone within a few days.
