I am having the same problem along the fact he won't stop jumpimg on the counters and the dining room table. I am getting VERY frustrated....actually thinking about letting "Simon" adopt a new family. I have tried that water, the shouting, the tapping him on the nose with a frim "no!" and also setting him aside in his carrier until he calms down. Do you have any other suggestions. I really love him and he otherwise is a good cat! My kids think he is the greatest! HELP!!!

For the cat-biting solutions, read the thread called "STOP THE CAT BITING"
from 19th Jan.
As for cats jumping on the furniture, well, Im sorry but, cats do jump, asmuch
as kids do. Cats love to jump and climb. They love hights hence their forever
need to go up the trees. They love to be on the highest place possible, cos
it gives them a good view. In fact, cats would live on the ceiling if they
could! :) So !
Do you let cats be cats, and try and make THEM happy, or do you really want
them to stay on the floor, unhappy. I let mine have a run of the house.
Including worktop and tables. And cupboards. And cat tree. And fridge. In
fact I have put the stairs on the wall just for them so they can get on the
top of the cupboards, where I placed their cat beds. They absolutely love it!
You have to of course cat-protect the house, the same way you would
child-protect the house, so remove glass items into place they can;t reach.
I dont see a problem with them going on the kitchen worktop. If Im cooking,
I'll clean the worktop first with antibacterial spray and Bob's your uncle.
I wont let them get on the worktops only if the food is lying on it.But that
is only for an hour a day, and I m there to shoosh them away. Any other
time, why not! Same with the tables. No biggy really.I dont see the
problem.Especially if your cats are indooronly, then they will be much
cleaner anyway.
You HAVE to let your cat climb somwhere. Its their nature. You wouldn;t stop
your kids from having toys,so why take this away from your furr children?
But if you absolutely have to, you could introduce the aluminium foilon the
surfaces you want to "protect" catstend to hate them. You need to keep it
there as long as the cat makes a negative association with it and stop
jumping on it.Or some sauce such as hot pepper sauce or marmite.

Yeah i agree cat-proof the house maybe even let them have dedicated 'high up
access tie down /remove any valables and anything that would hurt if fell on
a head!! the cats will grow out of it with reward-on-good behaviour. However
don't punish them they rarely understand, They are animals after all.
