Does anyone have one of these?  Before I spend $150, I'd love to get
feedback from someone who has used one for awhile. I have two cats in a
small apartment and want to keep the smells down.  Will the littermate cut
down on catbox smells?

We tried to use a litterbox of this sort and our cats hated it, I think maybe it was the noise it made. They refused to use it, we went back to the old fashion clean it yourself ones and all has been well.

Had one. Don't bother, get the old fashioned low tech litter box.

Made the mistake of getting one years ago.  Wish I hadn't.

I've have two for about 2-3 years. They work about 80% in cutting down the work of
maintenance. Some people have had trouble with them and for some they work well. It
helps if you like mechanical things.

Thanks, Adam.  I can see where they would cut down the work of maintenance,
but do they keep the litterbox smell down? I don't mind the work, I mind the
smells.

It has been a while since I've had a regular box. Trouble is I don't smell the odors
of my apartment because my nose is so used the smell.

Theoretically is does cut down the smell because 10 minutes after use the rake throws
most of the waste into the receptacle. When you open the receptacle it can be smelly
so I sprinkle some Arm and Hammer deoderizer into the waste receptacle every couple
of days.

I have one box in my living room inside the privacy tent and one in the hallway. I
recommend to get the latest Mega model.

I've found the smell is actually  worse because it gets the cat out of
the practice of burying the dropppings.  Also the LM jams up too
easily.

My cats still dig even with the Littermaid, though the level of litter is lower in
those boxes.

I've only had mine jam when I overfill.

Hi Jean,
I have 2 cats and use the LitterMaid Plus.  I've been very happy with it.
Makes clean up a breeze.  I just empty out the recepticle once a week.

As far as the smell goes, my cats never had a bad odor when I used the old
fashioned litter box.  The only time my cats' litter box had a bad odor, was
when I'd use the cheaper cat foods.

Keep in mind too, that you'll need to buy the better litter.  The hard
clumping or "premium" litters work the best.  I've tried using the cheaper
litter, but they don't work very well.  They just seem to gum up the tines
and do a poor job of getting everything out of the box, especially the
urine.

As far as the cost of the LitterMaid, I only paid $89.00.  Unless you're in
Canada, $150 sounds kinda steep.

The cost of the recepticles and carbon filters can get kinda pricey, and
sometimes difficult to find in stores.  But overall it's worth it to me.

HTH,
Brigitte

I'd like to add that I've had the same experience.  I used to feed my
cat one brand or another of the 'big name' stuff you find at the local
supermarket.  And the litter box was not a pleasant place.

Then on a whim I switched her to something called "Natural Choice."
It took me a while to realize it, but the odour from her litter box
became minimal.  It's so weak, in fact, that I typically forget to empty
it regularly and so will wind up getting yelled at (by the cat.)   :D

The packaging is loaded with all these wonderful claims about the
benefits of using their food.  Whatever.  I just know she likes it and
now her litter box is no longer something to be scowled at.

  No, I don't work for them.  :D
