Hi,

I think I figured out what was causing my kittens late night hyperactivity.
It seems some of the toys I bought are "catnip enhanced" or something. Well
I took those toys away for now, and he is MUCH calmer.

Sure, he still gets little wild spells, but at least he isn't literally
bouncing off the walls anymore! It was actually kind of scary the way he
would act before while on "the juice". I was afraid he might hurt himself or
something.

I have read that catnip isn't supposed to affect kittens until after 6
months of age? Is this true?
He's only a little over 3 months old now.

Man the hyper spells are awsome.  Our three start at 4:30am each morning,
and dont stop until feeding time (normally 8am onwards).

Gary.

I doubt. Logically whateva affects adults(deseases, poisons, drugs etc),
would affect kitten even more, and since catnip is kinda marihuana for cats,
it must affect them even more, not less then adults.

YPerhaps keep those catnip toys away from him at 4 am, and give it to him in
the evening , before you want him to go to sleep :) Let him get that energy
out by going nuts for half an hour then he'll sleep like a baby :)

But yeah 4am soounds like a standard waking up time for kitties.

Mine just did the opposite. 4 yr old adopted cat. He was totally spooked
with the new place until two days ago, and suddenly, it seems like someone
flicked a switch. He wants to play or be petted 24x7. Of course, I'm giving
him all that. The only problem now is that his idea of a great place to
sleep is on my pillow, while I'm also using it. Or, on my neck. Or my ear.
I'm not like some people who start sneezing the moment they walk into a home
with cats. But, if I get cat hair near my eyes, it's nasty. So, Mr. Cat and
I are negotiating sleeping arrangements right now. He feels I should sleep
down in the cellar by the furnace, and he should get the entire bed. We'll
see.
