I just adopted a 5 month old cat from a no-kill shelter on monday. He is
super-cool and seems to be adjusting. He seems very large for his age but I
don't think it was a lie (that he's 5 months). They said he was the runt and
his 2 brothers were even bigger.
As a mixed-breed cat is there any way to see traits from the original
breeds? He is a mush of a cat, likes to lay on me and have his belly rubbed,
sits in the window, tolerates the young kids playing doctor on him, LOL!
also very playful in the evening.
He is 100% black - even nose and mouth. His face is so small, it makes me
think there must be a breed it looks like, I just don't know what.
He is picky about food, the shelter gave me science diet & triumph in cans
and dry. He didn't like the purina I had at home. he has only been eating
little bits.
The clinic is closed today and tomorrow for Veterans Day so I have to wait
until Friday to bring him in. He vomited once and has a drippy eye :o(

He looks very similar to my Tahi in colouring (both fur and eyes), but Tahi
was much leaner at 5 months and had much larger ears. Tahi is, by all
accounts, half Burmese and there seems to be a consensus that whatever the
Burmese mated with was also part oriental, probably Abyssinian. Your Sid's
also got a long tail, like Tahi, which is apparently another sign of an
oriental, but Tahi has much longer legs, especially the rear ones. My
understanding is that it's common for Burmese and Siamese half-breeds to be
pure black, with a chocolate brown undertone when seen in the sunlight.

Wow - thanks, you nailed it. I was suspecting something oriental but thought
a mix. Abyssinian and Siamese don't look like him. I researched Burmese
though and that's him to a "T". Looks, personality, everything! I think he
is pure Burmese. What a wonderful and beautiful cat - we are lucky to have
found him!

Doesn't look pure Burmese, but certainly part, and probably half.

my Sid's face is a little pointier - less "garfield" looking. Interesting.
