Destinies Spyrit - 30 Oct 2004 02:42 GMT
Hi,
Last week I got two kittens after hitting the mother cat on a back road
locally.
I brought the two babies home and they have been doing very well, but today
the little female is limping and crying whenever her back foot touches
anything.  I am not sure but I think she may have broke it. I was out all
day and am not sure when/how this happened.  I am not in the financial
position to take her to the vet just now (I won't be able to go until my
next paycheck which is nine days away)  Does anybody know of anything at all
that I can do for her without going to a vet.  My heart is just breaking.
We weren't expecting to add two new pets to our home but they have wormed
their way into our hearts and we just adore them.
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions
Michelle

Can you ring up the vet and explain the situation and sort out a payment
plan?
Destinies Spyrit - 30 Oct 2004 03:15 GMT
I might.
I owe them a small fortune that I am still paying off.  Our Pit Bull was
taken and severely abused before we got her back and we ran up a couple
thousand in vet bills on her.  I am not sure how much more they will let me
run up until I get her bill down :-(

As long as you're religiously paying your installments, and not ever missing
them, they will probably see you as a good credit risk.

You could also offer to do some work for them to help pay it off - perhaps a
few weekends on cleaning duty or something?

I am sure that your Vet isn't the kind of heartless cretin that would allow
a kitten to limp around in excruciating pain, while deciding if the finances
are workable...

... are you?

Sorry if that's putting it in the 'brutally honest' light.

Sorry, Michelle, but I have to agree with Hilly.  Your kitten is
obviously in pain - you *must* take her to the vet.  If you are going to
look after these kittens you must take financial responsibility. Talk to
your vet and try and sort something out.

It's obvious that you have become really fond of these kittens, so
please take her now.

Good luck,

Katie

Good news on Deeohgee :-)
It turns out she only pulled something and with a little massage therapy she
is back up and out of pain.  She is limping a bit still but that should be
gone in a day or two.  It would seem that I over reacted just a bit.  I am
really sorry.  I just wasn't sure what was wrong last night and the first
thing that jumped into my head was a broken leg.  She is rolling around
under my chair now :-)
Thank you so much everybody and again I am really sorry I over-reacted.

Thanks for the good news :-)

However I must say that if you are ever in *any* doubt about anything, the
vet *must* be the first port of call, regardless of money or any other
considerations. no vet worth talking about would quibble, the health of
the animal comes first.

As much as I hate going into debt, I thank God for my credit card in a time
like you just experienced, Destinies Spyrit.  About four years ago, I came
home from work one evening and my cat was laying on the bed in his usual
place.  As I removed my shoes, I reached over to give him a pat and he
screamed in pain as soon as I touched him.

I immediately wrapped him in a large towel and took him to the vet.  Since
it was after hours, I had to take him to a vet emergency clinic, and they
charge a bunch.

Turns out, his hip was broken.  Never found out how that happened, but he
needed surgery immediately to remove the hip.  Vet says they get along fine
without the joint.  Wanted $700 plus the emergency visit of $300 for a total
of $1,000.  Either that or put him down.

I took him to a cut-rate vet across town, they operated on him for $150 and
the total exercise cost me $450.  I slapped it on the old plastic and cheap
at twice the cost.

Smokie Joe (a gorgeous lilac-point applehead Siamese) is now five years old,
walks with a very slight limp, and climbs everywhere.

The vet bill is long since paid off and I've never regretted spending the
money.

Thank God for Plastic!
