For the last couple of weeks, our 5 month old
male has been piling up his litter in one end of the
box. Within minutes of changing the box, he's in
there digging away until he's eventually got one end
of the box completely bare.
I don't think it is a sanitory issue, as I change his
box every other day. And he still uses the box as
normal (thank god!). Other than making a bit of a
mess on the outside with the kicked up litter, it isn't
a problem. I'm just purely curious at this point!
Anyone seen this before, or have any ideas as to why?

Maybe he just likes digging around in the kitty litter (because he
thinks it's fun). I've got one calico who just loves to slide her paws
across a shiny catalog or magazine. It's like she's "digging" and
she'll keep up the activity for minutes at a time.
(You can read the story of how I acquired the calico here:

I've got a couple of other cats who seem to enjoy digging in the
litter box. I keep thinking to myself, "It's covered up already. You
can stop now." I guess they just want to be thorough!

Yea it's for fun. My black cat loved to slide her paw on the tile floor. :P

One of my mate's cats used to sleep in the fresh litter in the littler box
! :) They had to buy new litter box for the others :)

Perhaps it's a game, or a habbit now for whatever reason, but it clearly
likes it that way and obviously, you are not doing it right! :) Try and do
it one time for him, and see what he thinks :)
My Shadow tends to dig through untill she finds a paper underneath, then
does a wee. I assume it feels better on her privates.

Maybe the litter level was too low and he was trying to fix that? seems like
an abstract thought, but our cat will throw a piece of food that is too hot
(stolen, of course) into her water dish, then eat it to cool it off...

well Bruce, my cat only does that if he wants to leave a little parcel your
cat isn't constipated is it ? by the way I have to clean my cats litter box
out after each use as I did with my last cat which isn't as bad as it
sounds as he mostly uses it1st part of a.m and early evening. maybe your
baby just likes to play, like a kid in a sand box. good luckin finding the
reason jp
