I have two male cats, age 3.  I am going out of town for 10 days.  I have
someone to come in and check on them, feed them, etc. once a day.  Do you
think they will be all right?  Should I have my sitter come more?  I need
some advice!

Two cats can keep each other company, so it isn't so much of a problem as
if you only had one. However, for that length of time, you really need
someone to spend as much time as possible with them, ideally at least an
hour or two twice a day at the very least. The sitter needs to play with
them and keep them company, not just pop in, feed them and disappear
again. He/she needs to be someone they know and trust and are happy
around.

Do they have access to the outside, such as through a cat flap..? If so
then they can at least get out and about as normal.

Cats are creatures of habit, they detest changes to their routine. You
need to disrupt their lives as little as possible.

Hope this helps,

Ivor

I disagree - they have one another to play with and won't suffer from a
short humanless spell. As long as the person doing the checking actually
does come in and change their water and give them fresh food once a day they
will be fine. Mine have been left for 7 days, with someone just coming in to
change water and give fresh food once a day and it has been no problem. And
my cats are the kind that bolt out the pet door the moment anyone unknown
steps inside, so during that time they had no real human company. I wouldn't
have any qualms about leaving them up to two weeks under such arrangements,
as the people who have accepted feeding and watering duties are totally
reliable.

If you can afford it, I'd suggest having the sitter come in twice a day.
That is what we do when we go on vacation.

I have done this many times and my 3 cats are fine as long as someone is
checking on them they should be fine.
