Our 12 year old black & white male, Lucky has been suffering from chronic
sinusitis since New Year's. One a month , the vet has to give him a
cortisone shot followed by a week of antibiotics.

It is a recurring problem  and the vet says Lucky will always have this.

Have any of you folks ever experienced this with a cat? Please let me know
if you have.

Thanks,
~Marie~

Is he Persian or Himalayan (with the short, caved in nose)?  I
understand they can have chronic trouble.   MLB

No, Lucky is a domestic "tuxedo" cat and doesn't have a "Persian" nose. I
can hear the nasal congestion  as he breathes. Right now, his nose is not
bleeding and his appetite is fine.

In another week or so the nose bleeds will resume and he won't be able to
smell his food and at that point will stop eating. This is when we make the
trip to the vet. Poor baby, he's our grand patriarch who is celebrating his
12th birthday tomorrow!

Thanks for your help and concern!!

I haven't had any experience with your particular problem with cats,
but I know several people who had to have polyps removed from their
nose.  I suppose a cat could develop a polyp.  I
do hope he improves -- things like this are a constant worry.
Best wishes.   MLB

Not with any of my cats Marie, but myself.  I'd suggest that you maybe see
a specialist.  I think that a longer period of treatment with antibiotics
might be warranted, and maybe a different antibiotic all together.  It may
continue to come back, but they should be able to knock out the initial
infection.  Good luck.
