making house safe for kittens

I am happilly giving a home to two kittens (7 weeks old).
I am making my house safe for them - e.g. covering the two holes in the
cupboards in my kitchen so they don't go where they shouldn't - but I am
concerned about my computer, specifically all the juicy munchy wires that
kittens like to try and chew.
What's a good way to kitten proof those? Get some sort of uber wrapping to go
round wire bundles, or should I think of fencing off the small area with wires
in it somehow?

thanks!

If you can block it off so the kittens can't get to the wires behind the
computer - great! I have most of my mouse cord and the keyboard wrapped in
spiral cut tubing. Don't forget lamp cord. They can go for that too if they
can get to it.

Also check to make sure there aren't chemicals (cleaning supplies, laundry
detergent, bleach etc.) they can get to. Make sure the outside of any
containers don't have any spilled contents on them - the kitties might lick
it off.

You may want to keep the lid down on the toilet to prevent them from
accidentally falling in.

Putting things up high isn't a solution with cats. If sufficiently motivated
they'll find a way up there.

Hi Wendy
thanks for your reply!
Good point on the chemicals - there is a bottle of bathroom cleaner that needs
to be moved out of the way.
My computer chaos has been pretty much fixed, but I think I am going to block
off access to that area where the plugs are. (Should be doable.)

As for toilet lid - this is an important one! I rescued one of our family cats
kittens from the toilet once. (kitten was ok, but a bit cold.)

cheers

Try restricting the kittens to a small quiet area of the house for while..
say 2 weeks.. make sure that are is completely free of power cords,
chemicals and things they might pull onto themselves but also ensure it has
all the things they need like food, water, litter and a bed. After a while
introduce them to other parts of the house and be with them while they
explore.. if they look like touching things they shouldn't use a firm voice
and say NO or Ugh Ugh.. if/when they back away from that thing say GOOD
BOY/GIRL...  you could also consider a water squirter and say the 'bad'
words at the same time.. it worked for me.. might work for you.

Doing this they will learn the things they are allowed to touch and not...
as well as the 'good' and 'bad' sounds from you that you can use for the
rest of the time with them.

Good luck

Steve
