Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me. We recently adopted a 2 month old kitten
from the humane society and brought him home..
We have been trying to introduce our kitten to our resident cat and in some
ways things have been going well. Our cat is comfortable with the scent of
our new kitten, and is even comfortable being in the same room as our
kitten.
The problem is that every time the kitten gets close to our cat, the kitten
starts chasing after him. The cat responds by hissing, growling then
eventually running away, but nothing seems to stop our kitten from chasing
our cat. Is this normal? We assumed that the kitten would be shy and timid
when wandering over to our cat, but instead he seems to show no fear even
when our cat hisses, growls and bats at him. When our cat runs away the
kitten thinks he's just playing, when really, he's terrified.
How should we deal with this situation? We have tried distracting the
kitten when he starts to attack, with loud noises, or throwing something at
him (which is difficult given his speed!), with varying degrees of success.
Right now I just feel like our cat will never like the new kitten, if every
time he comes out, the kitten terrorizes him! How should we try to stop our
kitten from chasing? How can we let our cat know he's just trying to play?
Thanks,

Same problem here and it's been two years. Squeak thinks Bonnie is
playing but I know she's not. Some cat's just don't get along but do
tolerate each other.
Show the resident kitty lot's of love and affection to reasure him that
he is not being replaced.
Good luck

Just a quick suggestion... make sure your older cat has a place he can jump
to that kitten can't get to---kittens are tireless & fearless and the older
guy is not going to be able to give kitty the message to leave him alone for
a while...

We have had the same problem with our kitten chasing the older cat. We
didn't know what to do, our cat was being driven nuts. Our solution was
by chance. We found a kitten around the same age and brought it home,
now the 2 kittens play with each other and our older cat has total
relief. We did not intend n having 3 cats, but with the 3rd its actually
peaceful around here.
