Male Cat Spraying Outside of Litter Box

I have two cats, brother and sister about 18 months old.  They are 100%
indoor cats and have been since birth.  The male, Clyde, sometimes sprays
outside of his letter box.  He will go for several days or weeks without
spraying and then "bam" he sprays all over the area around his litter box.
The litter box is kept clean and the spraying is not all the time, just some
times and then for a couple of days.

Clyde seems to have an atitude problem, much like a spoiled child.  If he
doesn't get something he wants right away then he sprays.  His sister,
Bonnie, has never sprayed.

The two cats play together well and were raised together before I adopted
them.

Any ideas or suggestions?  I have tried to find a cause or causes for
Clyde's spraying, but no such luck.

The easiest answer is that there's another cat outside making faces at him.

Both sexes spray. If you're actually catching him in the act, a sharp
"NO" will distract the cat from spraying.

Huh ? A paragraph back you mentions "If he doesn't get something..." So
there's 2 different sprayings; one where you and your cat don't see
eye-to-eye and another litterbox related?

I'd take *both* cats to the vet for a quick once-over (mention the
problem) to rule out urinary tract infection (I say both because Clyde's
spraying around the litterbox might be a response to Bonnie's spraying
in the litterbox).

Have you ruled out a urinary infection? If it's not that, you could try
a Feliway diffuser, check bizrate.com for the best prices.
