Kitty has ringworm

About a month ago I got a 5 week old kitten for a local shelter to keep another kitten
I have (rescued from a railroad yard) company. The two quickly became the best of
friends and both seem healthy and active.

Last week I noticed the kitty from the shelter had a few bald spots of varying sizes
and right away I took the two to the vet since they were due for a return for shots
anyway. The vet told me that the kitty had ringworm and gave me a dip that I'm to dip
them in every 4-5 days and some medication to add to their food every day. To date I've
dipped the kittens once and gave them their medication.

My question is this. How long should I expect the dip and medication to take effect??
While I understand it will take a while for the fur to grow back I notice that the bald
spots is still getting larger.

On the positive side the kitten I got from the railyard is showing no signs of ringworm
yet.

It varies...  When Ming had ringworm (he came from the shelter with it
all over his face, and several spots on his neck and legs that were
about the size of my thumbnail) the vet said that it would be 3-4 weeks
before the skin healed and 4-5 weeks before the spots began to regrow
fur.  He also warned me that for the first couple of days the spots
might continue to grow. Apparently, the fungus weakens the hair, so it
falls out a day or so after the infection spreads to that area.  Ming's
spots actually healed in about 2 weeks and were starting to regrow fur
in just under 3.  The vet had me giving him a bath every 2-3 days for 3
weeks along with oral medication.  We thought he would be on the oral
meds for at least 10-12 weeks, but I stopped at about 7 weeks, since
there were no signs of active infection after week 3.  I would have
stopped earlier, but the dog and I developed 2 or 3 little spots (we
treated those with topical ointment for the dog and a topical cream for
me).  I kept everyone on their treatment until there were no new spots,
and all the old spots were healed and had new fur on them (well, except
for my arm, which didn't have fur in the first place).

I just dipped the kittens for the second time yesterday (They're taking it better then
I expected.!!) and today I took a closer look and have noticed that not only are the
bald spots not getting bigger there's even fur growing back into a couple of them.

On the positive side only one of them seems to be effected. I haven't found any signs
of ringworm. I feel bad about having to dip him. Of the two he's the "good" one. Never
complains, doesn't cause a lot of trouble, etc.  The one with ringworm is the one
that's always causing trouble for the two of them. He had an upper respiratory infection
when I got him from the shelter and I ended up giving both of them medication. Now I
find out that he also had ringworm and they're both getting dipped.
