I have a 16 year old short haired cat that has a really bad shedding problem
and it seems to be getting worse
she also has very dry skin, when i brush her it flakes off
like snow.
is there anything i can do about this?
i have thought about bathing her but would hate to do that her as i really
dont think she would appreciate it very much.
any ideas? anyone?
thanks

I'd have her seen by a vet. She's a senior so this could be happening as the
result of a medical problem that you are unaware of.

A few years ago my previous cat started to shed excessively and after being
examined by the vet, she was diagnosed as hyperthyroid. Hopefully this is
not what is going on with your cat.

The cause of the problem needs to be determined before a solution can be
found.

Best wishes.

I have had her since she was a kitten and she has always been a major
shedder. she now gets burs and knots in her hair that take forever to brush
out and cannot be all that comfortable either
she isnt losing hair as in going bald she just sheds alot
but i will take her to the vet and see what he says
Thanks

As cats get older they can have trouble grooming themselves. A vet visit can
rule out a health problem that could be the cause. I could also be arthritis
or she might just not be as flexible and therefore able to reach all the
spots she groomed when younger. Either way you see more hair and tangles.
