This is the first time I have posted on this board.  My name is Larry and I have two cats a 9 year old Calico "Sheena" and a 5 year old Tabby "Ginger".  About two months ago Sheena (the older cat) started vomiting on the carpets a couple of times, then it got to be every day, containing a mixture of hair and food.  I took her to our Vet and they ran tests and did a Barium? sweep of her stomach and intestines.  Everything came back normal.

Sheena is 9 years old and aside from this is in perfect health, she is about 3 pounds overweight.  Now Sheena is vomiting everyday and at times 2-3 times/day usually in the morning and early afternoon.  She is not and outdoor cat nor is Ginger.  Both are fixed and declawed in the front paws and they get along great.  I have changes Sheena's food on many occasions with RX food from the Vets to store bought, even for cats with hairballs but I don't think that hairballs is the problems because she is a short haired Calico.

Another problems is that the Vets want me and my wife to give Sheena Pepcid AC but Sheena catches on and hides to where we cannot get her.  Mixing the Pepcid AC in her food worked about two times then she caught on.  Sheena is a cool and wonderful cat and I want her to have a healthy long life but she is smart and sneaky when it comes to pilling her and I don't want to turn her into a cat that runs from us every time we approach her.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Larry Skaggs

did the vet try a reduced allergen food?  I know of a cat that did that,
went on z/d (prescription food) and no longer does.

What kind of food were they eating before the RX food?  My friend and I noticed that our cats were all throwing up since we tried out Purina's Indoor Cat Formula.  My cats have always eaten a mix of Hills Science Diet Light and Eukanuba Light mixture. I saw the Indoor Formula and started putting out a little bowl for some variety. Soon they were more and more of the Indoor and less of the Hills/Eucknuba mix - barfing ensued. After my friend and I compared notes, we decided to stop the Indoor Formula and everyone seems to be getting back to normal. My theory is that the Indoor Formula expanded too much in their stomachs (maybe to cut down on consumption and prevent weight gain - who knows) and they were filled up too much. Their coats dulled as well. Everyone seems to be better now.

Cats get used to food, so maybe all the RX changes upset delicate constitutions. Just a thought.

Is Sheena shedding?  My cat is shedding a lot right now.  Swookie is
also a shorthair who is mostly an indoor cat. (we never let her out
alone) Swookie also started vomiting a couple of times a day.   We
called the vet and he said to give her hairball medicine because she may
be having a hard time getting all the hair to come up. The medicine
would help her pass it when she used her box. We did this for a couple
of days and she has quit vomiting.  Hope this helps Sheena.
