My daughter's cat is a 11-yr old female Himalayan. She gets constipated once
in a while, does not want to eat during that time nor drink. My daughter
puts a bit of mineral oil on her paws, so she can lick the oil. Finally
after a few days, it helps.
Would someone know what to do to prevent this problem from happening again?
We don't like to see her suffer like that. She eats canned food and moist
pellets.

Waiting impatiently...
Thank you for your help.

Chris

I've heard strained canned pumpkin works for both constipation and diarrhea.
Although I don't think it would help in prevention.  (cats supposedly love
the stuff).

maybe she can try a drop of mineral oil in w/canned food on daily basis to
help?

If I were in your shoes, I'd be consulting my vet to determine why this is
happening. Your cat is a senior and may have a medical problem that needs to
be treated in a specific way.

The fact that she's not consuming water during the time she is constipated
should also be of concern.

I almost never see my cats drink water.  They apparently get all the
water they need from the canned food.

This could very well be true as most canned food contains up to 80% water.

Agreed, but the cat belong to the OP is neither eating or drinking while
constipated, so dehydration would be of a concern.
