Dear Cat Lovers:
You are my last hope. I've got a nine year old tomcat that goes NUTS
whenever he detects the slightest scent of dog on me. I mean he
attacks me as though I was a dog, with all the tomcat fury he can
muster. I've learned to take precautions after being around dogs-
it's mainly the shoes he objects to, so I've learned to wash them
off or change them before coming home, but sometimes I get exposed
to dog scent without knowing it, as happened tonight. My wat a watta
wittle wover boy shredded and bit my arm until blood was dripping all
over the floor; all I can figure is that while I was taking out the
trash, I got some dog scent on me. I took a shower, changed my
clothes and mopped the floor with bleach and detergent, but this time
it's not working. The thing is that when I get on to the bed or the
couch, he immediately wants to jump up and cuddle and be petted, but
then he smells the dog on me and starts attacking me furiously.
Have any of you experienced anything similar? What can I do short
of getting rid of him? I'm very attached to this cat, and as I am
writing this he is waiting by the door and calling me with his cute
little trill-meow.....
Thanks,

I would suggest you buy a bottle of Feliway spray, keep it by the door,
and mist your shoes every time you come in the house. A few Feliway
diffusers plugged in where you spend the most time with your cat will
help as well. You can buy both for a reasonable price at
http://www.valleyvet.com Just type Feliway into the search box on the
site.

One more thing...is your cat neutered? If not, it would be much
healthier for him if you have it done ASAP and will usually curb
aggression in male cats.

Have you tried batheing the cat in Nair? That seems to calm them down
really well. Kerosene works too.

Listen, here's what you do.... get a 120 pound chow and bring it into the
house. The cat will attack the dog and then it will have something to focus
on and it won't even notice you. If the whole house smells like a dog then
you won't stand out. If the cat wants to play rough fine. The dog will know
what to do.
