I have one cat that loves electrical cords. He enjoys every variety
and has chewed his way into a dozen or so, and chewed his way through
several that have been replaced, We even put some wires through PCV
tubing to keep him from chewing. Any suggestions, short of
electrocuted cat?

Kind regards,

All I can think of is pet repellent....the trouble is, what the kind I've
gotten here in UK is pretty repellent to people, too!  But if you can find
one you can stand, or maybe something natural but strong smelling, try that;
someone suggested cayanne pepper to me, and I know cats generally don't like
the smell of citrus, either, so you could get a natural orange spray (Trader
Joe's has one), or some orange oil.  That's the only thing I can think of,
finding something smelly which is not unpleasant to you, but too strong for
the cat, and distribute it liberally in the area around the wires!  We've
had this problem with our rabbit, I'm surprised he hasn't gone up in a puff
of blue smoke by now....!

Good Luck,

"bitter apple" spray stuff from the pet store does the trick, at least it did
for my cat.

rub each wire with Vic Vapour rub... or you can in case them with pipe
insulator which we have done on back of pc's and TV where its difficult for
us to get too.... antimate spray for dogs also helps

Easy really, you have number of choices, and I always go for more natural
ones, or much hated foils:

1. Wrap/place some aluminium kitchen foil around them for a while. Cats hate
aluminium foil

2. Rub some spicy sauce on them for a while(then clean it later of course
:)) such as hot pepper sauce or lemon juice/vinegar. Just offer your cat
viraety of spices and smells and see what she/he hates the most! :)

my cat and kitten don't mind tin foil! I had read that in a book and while I
was cutting it out on the coffee table to do the wires both of them were
running across it! hence it went straight in the big after making a few
silver balls to play fetch with LOL

LOL....that's why you have to try different things with different cats.
Like I said, while most cats don't like the smell of orange, one of my cats
used to eat it!  And I tried the tin foil thing on the carpet on a spot they
were soiling, and they just went on the tin foil!  So yeah, you have to find
the thing that your cat dislikes the most, whether it be a smell or a
texture or whatever, and use that....sometimes takes a bit of trial and
error, but you can generally find something that works.

Have you tried it yet?  Cuz if not, there's no saying it *won't* work for
your cat.  But if that doesn't work, I don't know what will other than
persistance with the waterbottle, and time....maybe someone else has some
suggestions?

they both ran all over the tin foil! when it was on the coffee table, didn't
bother them.....  last night I did try it on the kitchen top, thought maybe
the noise may put her off as she jumped up there but no! she didn't care
