I have two male cats. Brothers, two years old. Over the past few months,
the heavier of the two (Cairo) has exhibited some angry behaviour. He will
wake up, shake his head and there is drool hanging from his mouth. Plus he
HATES his brother now!! Everytime his brother comes near him, he'll growl,
hiss...etc...Sometimes when I go to pet him he does the same thing. He
seems nervous for some reason...and I have no idea what is going on!! I took
him to the vet, and the vet said he is fine, but his nose is red fron
rubbing on something. So the vet gave me Ovaban to give him...he said if
that doesn't work, to get blood work done on him...any ideas or help would
be greatly appreciated..

Odd. I looked up Ovaban by itself and it said it is given to delay heat
cycles. Thought.. hmm.. weird for a male cat, so looked up "Ovaban
aggressive male cat" and found results for curbing territorial spraying
and fighting behavior. Are your cats neutered?
Other than that, it seems Cairo is trying to tell you something. The
drooling, hissing at a familiar cat and growling sound like something is
really wrong physically. I'd either get the bloodwork done pronto, or
find a new vet.

Yes i agree. he (the vet) said he would get blood work done if these pills
have no affect on him after 8 days. I am also wondering if it is allergies.
Something I should mention is that I work at a landfill site, and he started
getting this drooling shortly after I started there. And he is always
sniffin around my workboots, and work clothes, etc...Once i pieced that
together, I began leaving my work clothes at work, so I'll see how that
goes. I am also considering an air purifier. I wondered about a different
vet, but when I say there was nothing wrong with this guy, it is because his
appetite is fine, the vet did a physical exam last week and he was fine,
just this drooling and aggressiveness...it is so out of character of how he
used to be!!

if it started after you started this job, then it 'probably' has something
to do with that.. good idea to leave your work clothes at home.. might
recommend you take a shower as soon as you get home too. Personally I'd get
a second opinion.. I am a firm believer that the owners are the better judge
that there is something wrong with a pet - with a few small exceptions. If
you are uncomfortable with the answer, go back and reask the question, or
find a new vet.

From this description it sounds like your cat may have some dental
issues going on which would definitely account for the drooling and
aggression which could be caused by pain. He may be rubbing his face as
well because of pain.

You need to stop the Ovaban right now and find a new vet. Ovaban can
cause irreversible diabetes in cats as it can damage the pancreas, and
also greatly increases the risk of cancer. I don't know of any
knowledgeable vets that would even consider prescribing this drug.
Please get your cat to a *different* vet right away and have your cat's
teeth thoroughly examined.
