We live in a suburb close to a forest. We just can't keep the cat inside, he
loves spending the nights hunting. During those hot summer heat waves, we
just let the cat out for the night. The problem is, after a few hours of
hunt, he comes back to the house ( usually around 1-2 am) with a mouse. He
will then start meowing near the patio door until someone does get up. Once
we open, the smart cat will do a funny "meowrrrrr", and then immediately
start eating his prey. How nice. This little fellow will wake us up in the
middle of the night so we can witnes his meal. Maybe he just wanted to show
off. "Hey, just look what I cought!"

Hey! What good is it being a mighty hunter if no one knows about it?

Erm yes that's about right.
Mine however has the lovely habit of bringing kills inside on the rug -
like rats etc. So far the catflap has prevented ducks and rabbits making
their way inside but it's only a matter of time.

Jacky brought me a perfectly severed rabbit head once. That's when the window
got closed for good, and everybody has to pass inspection at the door before
they can come back in the house. I was always afraid they'd drag a live snake
in someday anyway.

One of these nights instead of hunting, he will be the hunted. Living so
close to a forest, I would build a large attached enclosure on the house.
