S.O.S. - 25 Mar 2008 03:16 GMT
I had posted earlier about my cat Chowder who was having walking
and balance problems and had just
peed the bed a couple nights ago.

She was FeLV positive which I knew when I adopted her off of PetFinder via
a adoption program through a vet clinic about a hour away from where I live
now.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce
that she was helped to sleep one last time.

When I took her in for her vet appointment, a clinic that specializes in
cats only, the vet very quickly knew what was wrong.

She felt her belly and said one of her kidneys felt like a tumor was growing
there and it was twice the size it should be.

Also her eye was starting to cloud up and looked like part of her pupil was
covered in a white cotton looking growth.

The vet said it appeared that the cancer had spread to her eye and brain.

That would explain most of the neurological balance and walking problems.

I had never had to take a animal in to be put to sleep. I lost it when the
vet told me what was best.

While they watched my 3 y-o daughter,
I went back with Chowder.

They placed her on a soft towel and I held her head as I told her how much I
loved her over and over and asked that she forgive me for what was about to
happen.

She really didn't flinch much when they gave her the injection in her leg so
she must have really lost a lot of feeling back there.

I was staring at her eyes the whole time and again I lost it the instant I
knew she was gone.

I only had her 2  1/2 months.
She was about 2 years old.

When I got her I was told she could live up to 2 years being positive with
FeLV.

The vet said when cats contract it in their mothers uterus, they don't live
near as long than if she had contracted it when she was a adult.

I am just beside myself.

I did not expect this visit to be "the one."

I thought meds, maybe a ear infection, but not this.

Her bowls are still sitting out with food and water. Her litterbox is
untouched.
I still have a bag of her food. I still smell her. :(

I told the vet afterwards after watching the pet shows on Animal Planet, and
watching animals before they are put to sleep, that you would think you
would get desensitized to the death process. The vet said it never gets
easier. The vet even choked up herself.

Still crying.....

I must go now.

TTYL :(

I LOVE YOU CHOWDER.
See you again one day.

I am so sorry  I know how you feel losing one so young

I lost My Spirit to respiratory failure less than 2 months ago he was a
little over 5 and had fought hard when he was poisoned last year by the food
recall

May these word help with the pain.  You are not alone I am crying right with
you

IF TEARS COULD BUILD A  STAIRWAY

If tears could build a stairway.
   and memories a lane.
I would walk right up to Heaven
   and bring you back again.

No farewell words were spoken
   No time to say "Goodbye."
You were gone before I knew it.
   and only Gods knows why.

My heart still aches with sadness.
   and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to love you-
       No one can ever know.

But now I know you want me
to mourn for you no more:
To remember all the happy times.
life still has much in store

   Since you'll never be forgotten.
       I pledge to you today-
A hollowed place within my heart.
is where you will always stay.

I am so sorry about Chowder. Tears are welling up in my eyes, too. I can
sympathize with you. I had to do the same with a stray I had taken in. My
thoughts are with you. :'(

I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy losing a furrbaby...whether
you've had them for 2 1/2 months like you did with Chowder or 20 years.  I
have to commend you for adopting a cat that was FeLV positive...not many
people would.  I'm sure you gave Chowder 2 1/2 months of joy as she gave
you.  Keep those memories close to your heart.

Sorry for your loss.

It was good that you gave such an ill cat a great home to
have while she could enjoy it.

That FeLV is a death sentence and one of the worst
afflictions to have to deal with.
At least she went to peaceful sleep knowing she was
in the presence of family who would never let pain
befall her.

I so very sorry for your terrible loss.

You have such a big heart, to adopt a cat that almost nobody would
adopt; knowing her life will be short.

And, for your incredibly selfless act, your big heart was broken, far,
far too early.

Thank you for adopting this unfortunate kitty, so she didn't live out
her short life in a small cage.

Instead, she had a home, and people to love her. A warm, soft place to
nap. A window to look out of. All of the things every cat should have,
and so many don't :-(

Her time with you was so very short.

But you are a hero in my eyes, and of course, in hers.

Bless you.

So sorry :(
The heart that loves is the heart that hurts...
You've done great, both of you. Never blame yourself for what has
happened. Your Chowder feels out of pain now and I'm sure she'd say
"thank you" for stopping it. Be strong. Life always wins.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss.
I still miss my old "white cat".

I am so sorry. I have an idea how you must feel. I cried for a long time for
my Lucy. She too had been born with FeLV. For weeks after I had to relieve
her pain, I went out on my deck every night and called to her like I used
to. But she was already crossing the Rainbow Bridge. I am sorry, the pain is
real, the grief is real. Be happy that Chowder had you --who loved her and
did everything she could hope for. Many would have never adopted her and she
would have a miserable short life. You gave her love and a home. She will
see you again, someday.

Sorry for your loss... I hope dearly that I never have to make that choice
for my kitty...Thank you for taking one small life and making it worth the
while that it was here. Thoughts and prayers to you.

So desperately sorry to hear about poor little Chowder.  You gave her so
much, even the mercy it hurt you to give.  She is now watching over you, as
you once watched over her.  There is still love between you.  Hopefully, you
will one day feel able to help another furry soul through this life.  In the
meantime, take it easy.  There's no hurry.  God bless you for giving Chowder
all you had.
