Threats To Poison Feral Cats At Brooklyn Parking Lot

At the Caroll Gardens parking lot in Brooklyn, someone is threatening
to poison the feral cats in the area.

One sign at the entrance to the parking lot reads, "Every time you
place cat food here, I will soak it in ammonia."

Another sign says, "The owner of this property insists that you stop
feeding the cats here."

Over the past few weeks, someone has left food for the cats and this
has lured even more cats into the area. And now the signs threatening
to poison the cats have appeared.

Many animal lovers said that the signs are horrible and are afraid
that someone will actually poison the cats.

The ASPCA was alerted of the threatening signs.

The parking lot owner and the parking lot supervisor said they have
nothing to do with the signs and have promised to find the person or
people who are involved in putting up the sign.

The owner did say that the person that is trying to feed the cats is
putting food all over the place and it not only is attracting cats to
the area but it is also luring mice to the parking lot.

That is terrible I hope they catch the person or persons soon. When my dad
was a kid he had a Saint bernard that was poisened by one of his neighbors.
The neighbor had tried hitting my aunt one day and the dog went to go after
him but he was chained up so didnt get to. Good thing too, he was a tough dog.
According to my dad he could pull his dog house. ok well, Best of luck to
those cats in Brooklyn.

It may be possible to poison cats, but certainly not with ammonia.....No cat
in his right mind would eat anything that smells as bad as ammonia. One
would have to find a poison that is much more subtle than that......

There is a woman near me who leaves fis heads and other waste out for
the cats.  The smell of cats piss is terrible and it has got into the
paving outside and can not be got rid of.

Many years ago, (1950) when I was a freshman in H.S., I had a job as a buss
boy in a restaurant in town. The old dishwasher, Jack, would take out the
garbage a couple of times every night, and spill a little for the stray
cats. Well, they would build up in numbers until there were hundreds of
them.....Mrs. Frazer, the owner of the restaurant would call the local
"animal control" people, and they would come and catch most of the cats and
take them away, probably to their deaths, although I never thought about
that when I was 15.........

There are a few that live over the fence in the inner city where a
friend of mine lives in an apartment.  I think it is the RSPCA who come
out and worm and de-lice them at certain times.  There must be quite a
few over there as well.
