My male cat is 7 and I have had him for 4 years. Suddenly (in last three
months) he has started new behavioral problems that he never did before:
1. He is CONSTANTLY meowing. Not just for food. All the time. Near me or in
another room
2. He strews his food all over the floor, up to 3-4 feet away. Never made any
kind of mess before.
3. He has become really bold about getting human food. Has been 6 inches
behind my back, eating from my plate. Comes after food on my plate while I am
holding it.
4. Gets on surfaces he isn't allowed and never did before, i.e. any table,
countertops
Advice on what is causing this and what is to be done would be appreciated.

He was not doing all that without any medication?
With the exception of #1 all of those seem normal to me but since it's a
change in behavior I'd be concerned.
I'm no cat expert but a checkup always seems like a decent thing. Is there
any chance he could be smelling another cat?

Yes. This would be my guess too. It sounds like he is experiencing
territorial problems.......

I have heard of all the behaviors and experiance 2 - 4 with all my
cats! I have another cat who is quite chatty and have heard of cats
who talk nearly 24/7.
I agree with the others, first call your vet, second, this sounds
territorial. Did you get another cat recently or did you lose a cat?
It could also stem from a loss I would think.

Hi my cat has anxiety problems. My cat is a female name Flo and she is 8
years old and I've had her for 8 years. everytime the door opens or the
phones rings, she runs and hides under a bed in a bedroom. The most
problems I have is when my cat has to go to the vet and she has to go in
her carrier. Once we get her carrier out, she runs and hides and most of
the time I have to pick her up and carry her in her carrier which she
doesn't like and once she is confined to her carrier, she starts meowing a
lot. I was wondering if there is a way to fix the problem of my cat not
being afraid to go in her carrier by herself when she has to go to the vet
for exams. My cat doesn't like to be confined to her carrier. She goes in
her carrier nicely by herself after the exam but from home, it is a
problem. Can you give me any advice on that?

Sure. Just use the same methods you use on yourself to enjoy shots at the
doctors and things like that. She probably feels the same way you do.
No? Seriously, leave her carrier out more and let her get used to eating
treats in it and relaxing. If you get out a carrier only when going to the
vet you might as well put a neon sign on it.

Try not getting the carrier "out". That is, keep it out all the time.....You
might try blocking the door on it open and putting your cat's food in
there....So she will have to go in it in order to eat and drink. That way,
she will stop associating it with something bad, and begin associating it
with something good. (eating and drinking).
