Our cat Sherman was lethargic & wouldn't eat or drink. I brought him to the
vet, they couldn't find anything wrong, he was just a little dehydrated and
temp was high/normal. They sent him home with medication to increase his
appetite and some canned food. He was better in 48 hours. That was about a
month ago. Recently he has been sticking his tongue out. I read that this
could be sign of a mouth problem. I checked his teeth and it looks like he
has an infected tooth. I will call the vet Monday morning and make an
appointment.
What will they do for an infected tooth? I am thinking if it is too bad
they will put him under and pull it. If this is the case what kind of care
will he need for it to heal properly? Antibiotics? Will I need to clean
out the wound periodically? What would cause an infected tooth?
Just wondered if anyone has had a problem like this before. I will let you
know how the vet appointment went.

More in likely pull it. Depending if it is even the tooth and not the
surrounding tuissue
The vet will go over after care and if prescriptions are needed depending on
the age of your cat
Anything can cause it just like us could have bite down on something and
cracked it and food got in it and started to rot

Yes I had a cat that needed several teeth removed. He did not do good under
the shot so I had the vet use gas instead. Went fine lived to 15 years of
age till CRM happened

Took him to the vet and he needs 1 or 2 teeth pulled. They will put him
under, clean his teeth, and pull any that need it. He behaves so well for
the vet, he let her look and poke around with out any problems. I tried to
look this weekend and he put up such a fight! The after care will be
antibiocits, dental rinse, and a follow up visit 10-14 days after. He is
scheduled for next Tues to have the work done. The right side of his mouth
was so red and swollen. He will be an a canned food diet for awhile. I
will keep his dry food out just in case he wants some. The vet said he
could eat on the left side of his mouth if he wanted to. I am a little
surprised on how much the estimate was, I wasn't expecting it to cost that
much. It will cost more than when my husband had all four wisdom teeth
pulled. But it will be worth it.
Because of the cost I may ask them to pull both of the teeth. I don't want
to have to come back in a year to have the questionable one pulled. They
both were so red and inflammed. It looked like it really hurt. What do you
think?

Better safe than sorry. The furball will adapt don't be surprised if its
appetite comes to life

We had a three year old showcat with some bad teeth. After she had a couple
pulled you could tell she felt much better and her appetite inproved.
