They also lick themselves, their kittens, and each other, none of which
are food. Those of mine that are lickers - they are also the noisy ones -
are clearly being affectionate.

They might be tasting the salt.....Mine sometimes like to eat a bit of bacon
or ham.....I don't know what a cat's needs for salt are.......

I wou;d think that if they needed salt, they would lick potato chips, but
all of mine ignore them.
