Hi folks,
My cat is a 16-year-old male tabby. He seems health for his age and is
eating normally, however, for a few months, he has had a sort of
awkwardness in swallowing. My suspicion was that he had soething stuck
in his throat. I took him to a vet, several weeks ago but they could
not find the cause. They could not feel any swelling anywhere. They
suggested we wait a while to see if the problem cured itself. It
hasn't, and now, if you stoke the cat so that he starts purring, the
purring sounds very rough and he will cough, as if trying to clear
something from his throat.
I guess that's the next step is let a vet aneisthetise him and probe
deeper to try and find the cause, but I just thought I'd ask in this
n/g if anyone has experienced anything similar and how it was
resolved. Thanks...

You may want to spring for the more in-depth look, or x-rays. It could be a
throat tumor. Some of those might get felt from the outside, but I doubt
all of them would be.
I had a hedgehog once that got one (died from it) and there were _no_
outward signs except difficulty eating.
