Please help. We hve just taken a 10 year old cat into our home. She came from
a loving home which she also shared with a dog. To start off with the drive
to our new home was very traumatic as she hates travelling. We kept her in a
closed bedroom with food water and catsand for two days and then slowly
introduced her to the rest of the house. After day 5 she got out of the house
and now lives on the roof. She refuses to come down and we are now leaving
her food and water outside for her. I think she may hev a problem with our
dog though our dog used to live with 5 cats and are quite used to cats. I,m
afraid that Katja may never come into the house again. What do we do? Bring
her back into the house for a few days again to help her get used to the dog?

keep her confined  two days is no where near enough time  it could takes
months for the furball to adjust

Agreed.
The cat sounds like it has a lot of adjustments to make.
and 5 days just isn't enough time for her to call this home.

Just because the dog lived with other cats, and the cat with another dog
does not mean the two will live together in harmony.
Not forgetting you mention other cats.
Give the new cat it's own "safe" space (even if only a closet with the door
propped slightly open) and keep the other cats and dog out of it, eventually
they will learn to live together,...or kill each other

Hi there, I have had alot of experience taking in cats, a 10 year old
cat will take awhile to adapt. First of all she needs a place to feel
secure for awhile, a closed room with a litterbox her own foodbowl and
water. She needs to get used to the new home and most important is her
own space to feel safe away from the other pets and then slowly
introduce her to the others. She is older and will be harder to adjust
but I have found that if she has a secure place to stay she will
eventually blend in, hope this help. I have rescued many strays had
them fixed, got their shots and introduced them to the others, most of
them find their own space and they eventually get along. Younger ones
adapt quicker, the older ones take longer.  Good Luck to you, don't
give up! Love will win her over!
