Hi, this is my first post here in Google groups. I am not even sure
if there is more than discussions, and posts here. Is this like orkut?
I left orkut, just something about it that I didn't quite like
Here is the background. I have had my older female cat "Noodles"
since she was a baby 1 1/2 years . We recently rescued another
kitten "Butters". He seems to have brought in a whole mess of things
that were non -existent before his arrival. He is I believe half
Siamese, and half wild kitty mutt.
Since the arrival of Butters, my Noodles has been sick, droopy
teary , pink right eye. Butters has a cough, and also , (and this is
what I wasn't expecting, what horrifies me) tapeworm. I have actually
caught two of them form the rectum, and cleaned them up. Did I say
YUK!
We were very lucky in acquiring a fifty dollar kitty medicine form
a friend, which we have been using as directed. We were also using the
kitty round worm medicine, which was suggested by the first owners of
Noodles. They have lots of pets. you could open a mini pet store in
there house!
However, upon reading some stuff on ask.com today, I diagnosed that
our kitty doesn't have round worm , but does have tapeworm. I have
been overly paranoid, on thinking I can catch it, and really don't
like this situation.
The other part of the scenario is that Me and my boyfriend have
been out of work for a month now, and am totally broke! We don't know
if we will be able to pay rent next month. I really want both of my
Kitty's to get better, but don't have the big bucks to bring them to a
vet.
Dose anyone out there, know of an herbal remedy, or something else
besides the actual tape worm medicine that can be used as an aid in
curing these problems? If someone does, show me the way, a link, or
the store, what ever. Also the round worm medicine said on the box, we
should not give the round worm medicine tablets to a sick kitty. He
has two problems, and noodles I haven't seen the worms yet, but that
doesn't mean there not there.,
Please I will appreciate any advise, or comments, you might have,
good or bad,
Thanks everyone and have a great week.

You need to take your cat to the vet and get the professional treatment.
The other symptoms need to be addressed immediately. There are many
possibilities that are wrong with the kitties an need to be addressed ASAP.
the deworming it is a simple treatment. The herbal treatment and over the
counter treatments can be dangerous.
The tapeworm that you are describing are usually caused by fleas. It is an
easy rectified situation. The other symptoms need both cats to go in to
your vet
You realize that you could have caused a problem if you used round worm
medication.
Most vets will work out a payment plan

Please, for the sake of your resident animals and your pocketbook, no
more strays. People should take strays to a vet or to a shelter where
they can be properly taken care of. Like you, I have learned, first
hand, about the perils of strays. I will neve make that mistake again.
Other friends have taken in strays. Sometimes it works out okay. Other
times, it has been a disaster. One stray did have a fatal disease. It
was a nightmare that could have been prevented so easily.
I hope everyone who is reading your post has learned a leason from
your experience. Bringing home a stray is an absolutley terrible idea.
It is just asking for diseases, many of them fatal. To be blunt, if
you don't have money for a vet, you shouldn't have brought in another
animal. Sorry to be so plain about it, but someone needs to say it.
Any new arrival should visit the vet BEFORE entering the house, even
for a short visit. I'll say it again, some of these diseases are
fatal, don't take a chance. Brining in a stray is Russian Roulette.
I am 100% against herbal or any other home remedy unless you have done
a huge amount of research from unbiased sources. LIkewise for self
diagnosing. Again, I have learned from experience that I'm not skilled
enough to do it and I have had a lot more experience with it than most
people..
Some so called natural remedies do some good. Others do some harm.
Some do a lot of harm. It is like the urban legends. Some have some
truth to them, others are pure fiction.
There are many kinds of worms and other parasites. Many can not be
seen by the naked eye. The lab tech's use some pretty sophisticated
equipment to diagnose this, you can't do it at home. If you can see
the worms, tell your vet what they look like. 1/2 inch (1cm) long and
round and round like spagetti, oval shaped, or like grains of rice?
The vet will need a small, fresh sample of the feeces, even if you can
see some of the worms. That is to test for the kinds that you can not
see with the naked eye.
There are so many diseases to test for in a stray that you need to
take both cats to a vet. If you can't afford it and can't work out
payments, contact the SPCA or similar organization for advice. They
might be able to help.

Hi Mandy,
I have to agree with the other posters' advice about going to a vet - it is the best thing for the kitties. I'm not sure if you have a good Humane Society group in your area; in my county we have vets at the Humane Society that work at reduced prices. I'm sorry that you and your boyfriend are out of work - that seems to be when all the bad stuff happens; at least stuff that costs money.
Hope you and the cats are back on your feet again really soon.
