Hi,
The love of our lives, Drucilla a female Bombay mix, had kittens about 10
weeks ago. Yesterday the kittens went off to their new homes and Dru of
course is confused. She continually searches for them and caterwauls trying
to call them. She is still eating, drinking and using the litterbox
regularly and still plays with toys. Is there anything anyone can recommend
to help her through this tough time?
On another note. We have 5 other cats that are secluded from her since she
would go after them not long after the birth apparently feeling they may be
a threat to the kittens.
Now I need to start working towards integrating them again. Any suggestions?
In the mix is her brother and 4 of her first kittens, 2 boys and 2 girls. I
tried showing her one of the girls and all she did as sniff but the little
girls started to shake and get very nervous.
It was suggested that besides trying to clean the house of the scent of the
new litter I give Dru a bath. I will try anything at this point.
Feel free to reply by email. Remove the NOSPAM to reply.
Thanks,
~Joe

I would show the mother cat lots of love... pamper to her every need, try
not to leave her alone for long periods of time.
thats jusy my guess at how to overcome the problem. Please note im only
guessing. i have never had personal experience of this!!
good luck

We had the same situation. It was complicated
by the mother being a rescue but not feral. She
had been hurt by the fan belt of a truck where
she had hidden. She was very ferocious and
protective of her kittens but loved us for helping
her, really. She seems to have forgotten about
her kittens and gone back to a more kitten like
state. She was a teenage mother, : -)
It just took time and now she isn't ferocious
except once in a while. She cuddles in my arms,
sleeps on my pillow and has only bitten me once
lately. : -)
