Could not resist and went into the pet shop once again although I have
banned myself from doing so ....
There was this cat bed on offer: artificial sheep skin, washable.  The new
rescue cat just loves it and is so thankful that I realised how it's not
taken for granted that every cat has a got bed or even a place where to be
secure. She's now such a proud owner of her own bed! You would not believe
it.
I'm so glad I got it, but no more pet shop for the rest of the month! (Only
a week to go :-) <grin>)

Wise up Carola ...what is wrong with you?  Don't you realize the cat owns
you and has complete control?  The next time you go into that pet store, ask
yourself how the idea got planted in your head.

I think I've got you beat.  Ever hear of "tie" blankets - take two flannel
blankets, cut ends into 6 inch strips and tie each layer together?  I make
these for every single foster cat/kitten I give up.  Even bought a sewing
machine so I could start sewing cat beds (although I have rotten luck
w/those things).  Not only do they get cat beds, they get a handful of toys
too.  A can of food.  Treats.  I think I've lost my mind! :)

LOL

The first foster I homed I sent along a turbo scratcher. I learned quickly
I'd never be able to afford to keep doing that so he was the only one who
got such a nice parting gift.  ;)  I just really wanted the adoption to
stick and he was so good about scratching just his toy.

Good idea with the blankets! Yoda *loves* flannel. Have you ever made a tent
for them? They love them, they're easy and fun to make. It's a Simplicity
pattern.

I have not tried any sewing patterns since home ec in high school, more
years ago than I would like to remember!  (When did I get *old*? LOL)  And
even the simplest of patterns is enough to muddle this old brain of mine
(Ok, I'm not that old!)  I'll stick w/the tie blankets for now - easy to do,
can do a few in one night.  When I'm done w/school (old and in school, go
figure) and have some free time I'll give the pattern a try.  Thanks for the
suggestion though!  I may see if they have it at JoAnn Fabrics next time I'm
in there.

(sorry in the mood for poking fun at myself today!)

This looks like a great idea! I assume one can put padding in between the
two blankets too.
Or are they soft enough without? What size are your blankets?

About sewing: it's not our skill, it's these machines! I don't know why but
the bottom thread just mangles every time. And if I change the force of the
pull on it, it rips :-(
Someone should at last invent superglue for textiles!

Yes, you can put fiber fill in the two pieces of fabric.  For size, I've
tried 30 inches, but seems too large, haven't made any for a while.  You
need to leave enough room to be able to tie the strips - I cut them about 4
inches long.  You can also sprinkle catnip in with the fiberfill.
completely washable.  and since you tie, you can always refresh the
fiberfill and catnip easily.

Ah, yes, me and sewing machine, seems like I always get the needle somehow
embedded below the plate, therefor you can never get the needle out or the
plate off to fix.  Hence my reluctance to tackle the sewing machine.

I did manage to sew two pieces together and velcro one end closed - silly
me, used the sticky backed velcro - came off in the wash.  Rats.  I know if
I try to sew it on I'll kill the machine....2222222222221q=22222222
(sorry, Sergio likes to climb across the laptop as I type]]]
I get tired of trying to remove him) :)
