Possible Ring Worm

My cat has an area...round....probably no bigger than half the size of
the end of your little finger....that has appeared slightly below the
area where her hair is naturally thin in front of her ears.  I have
noticed that she will scratch it and that it had bled slightly from
her scratching before I saw it and started putting meds on it (Tomlyn
Fungisan at first...and now Pet Gold Hydrocortisone Lotion).  Is it
possible that this could be ringworm ?  And if so can it be treated at
home or is a trip to the vet in order ?

Thanks

My cat had a bad case of ring worm this year. I would take them to the vet
to be sure (they can see immediately with a 'woods lamp).  I had to clean
his ear  - insides were VERY dirty - everyday with a solution they gave me,
and then used Lotrimin from the drug store on the sores. I cleared up
nicely.

The difficulty with ringworm is that a blacklight -can- immediately make the
diagnosis, but a lack of response from the blacklight doesn't mean that the
cat does NOT have ringworm. If you take the cat to your vet, your vet should
pull a few hairs from the source and do a fungal culture to watch for
suspicious growth. To my knowledge, that's the only way to be sure (unless
the blacklight does, in fact, show something).

Good luck!
