I have a 8 months old Kitten. he was castrated at 6 months. I was
wondering how old he should be before I start letting him out?He is
very exciteble and I was afraid he might run under a car, but the
traffic is'nt very busy where I live and I could let him out at night
supervised because there is hardly any traffic then.my other cat is 8
and he goes out and has never come to any harm. Should i waite to see
if my kitten carms down abit before letting him out. He seems very
restless, but i'm not sure if that's due to him being in side although
the time. Thanks for any advise.

If you love your kitten and would be heartbroken if anything happened to him
then *never* let him out.  A lot of things can happen to him out there, most
of it bad.  As he hasn't been out before he'll never know what he's missing.

I have a pet door and a large outside pen, that allevates worries about my
"freinds in fur and fang" becoming road kill.

this is a debate that is old as time itself
there are so many factors that you have to consider
the biggest is the human factor

the average life span of an outside cat is less than a few years while a
inside cat is over 15

This is Phil's site it has a lot of information on the subject

My newest kittens learned to use the cat flap (it's possum proof, so
there is a rather large leap involved) at about 12 weeks.

However, I live next to a forest and the coyotes haven't been heard in
months, so I really don't worry about them.

My kittens were born in September years ago and at the end of
October when they were seven weeks old I took them out to a
tree that had green grass around and tree roots to climb on. The
day was warm and they enjoyed it a lot. After that on nice days
I took them out and stayed with them so they wouldn't be scared
and I think it helped them become well adjusted cats. 8 months
is old for taking a cat out for the first time.

for those who don't let their cats out, put your self in your cat's paws
for a minute. think of how it would feel to be stuck indoors and
watching the world go by through a window.
it does suck, i suffer from agoraphobia and knows how it feels.
but still, i love missy and for a cat, outdoors is a scary and dangerous
place.
if you truely love your cat, you would'nt let your best friend outdoors.
