I just switched my cat from Humulin N to Lantus and his urination has
increased to every two hours.  He is urinating a large amounts and is also
drinking large amounts.  Is this normal?  Did other Lantus users find this
happened to their cats until they found the right dose?  If so, how long did
the increased urination last on average before you saw a decrease.  By the
protocols, I should not raise the number of units until 7 days have passed.
He is on 1.25 units twice daily.
No ketones has been detected thus far in the urine.

Please let me know if you ran into a similar problem.

are you testing his BGs with a glucometer?  You might not be giving enough
Lantus, but you won't know until you do a curve (testing every two hours) to
see what his starting BGs are, and how low he goes.

It does sound like the glucose is not regulated with the new insulin
yet. I've never heard of lantus -- it's been a few years since we've had
our diabetic cat, but increased peeing always meant the blood sugar was
too high.
