Now that bird flu has broken out in the UK, is there any danger to cats ?

Yes, there is. As far back as September 2004 there were reports of cats
in Europe and Asia contracting bird flu, and evidence suggests there is
a small risk that cats can pass on the virus to humans (although no such
cases have been reported to date) as well as other animals. AFAIK, there
is no treatment for cats who contract avian influenza, which is fatal to
felines.
