What do you think about the above? It seems like to me that it would be easy
to hook a fian and a filter together and make and make my own. Since I'm
only worried about cat hair and not bacteria ...

Have you had good luck with any products? It seems crazy to me to buy
something that doesn't have a fan, ie just sits there and lets air flow
through it.

And isn't the real measure of an air cleaner how much hair it collects? I
mean, if something pulls a lb of cat hair out of the air, it's exactly twict
as good as something that pulls a half a pound ... right?

Excuse my typing. I took out my contacts and wanted to post this before I
get up tomorrow.

I put a HEPA filter in my furnace...
keeps the house fairly free of dust and hair etc

These things are nice, and they do clean the air, but I wish the
"specifications" were a little more scientific. "Changes room air up to 5
times an hour" doesn't tell me a lot.....What size room are they talking
about? - I would rather see the number of cubic feet of air per unit time
specified, so you could do a real comparison with other brands and other
prices......

I bought an "Orek", refurbished but didn't like it and am returning it. I
ended up with a "Honeywell 1700", I think the model is. It was on sale for
about $100 at Target. I'm going to get a second one for the bedroom.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciat it.

I have one just like it.  It filters large amounts of air.   I use it for my
whole house, placing it on the stair landing to the second floor.  I change
the charcoal pre-filter every month ($10).  The main HEPA filter I have
changed once in 6 years ($80).  The only thing I dont like about it is that
it makes noise.  Not a problem on low setting, but on high it's too noisy.

It is noisy all right, but it's worth it when you've got sinus headaches. It
turned out to not be cat hair though because my cats still play on the bed
and sit on my chest but when I go outside and come back in and keep the same
shirt on, the pollen or whatever it is gets to me and changing clothes fixes
it almost right away.
