You have already started the process......Give them food and water every
day.....And every day, move the food and water dish a little closer to your
back door. Soon, they will be crowding inside your open back door to get the
food and water that you have inside your house.....then, one fine day, you
can pull the string and close the door while they are eating away.....:^) -
It worked for me.........

At 6 months old, it's going to be a bit tough to do this outside where
they can get away. They have that hiding instinct pretty ingrained by
now. Are you planning to catch them and bring them inside? If so, it
would probably be easier to trap them now and get them in a room in your
house, then try some "tough love" in getting them used to you.
Outside, you'll have to spend lots of time with them (well, you would
inside too but outside it's going to be harder to get the time with
them.) Make sure they know you are the one with good things (food.) What
I did was take treats out to a half-grown feral cat and make sure she
saw me throw them to her. I eventually threw them closer to me. I also
spent a lot of time sitting outside as near as I could, talking softly
to her to get her used to my voice and presence. When she got more
trusting and interested in me several weeks later, I let her see me rub
my hand all over a plant. I then walked out of sight. She went right
over and smelled the plant to check me out.
After that, I kept throwing the treats but would also stretch my hand to
get her to try to sniff my fingers. She eventually did that and I was
able to pet her later that night, and that broke the dam!
Even though Sweeter will always be a hidey cat, I'm glad we brought her
inside. She is the most grateful and loving of all of our cats.
Good luck with your ferals,
Rhonda
