First, sorry so long, but please see what you think.

My two year old cat has peed outside the box since she was born 8-3-04, and
always been here, inside, and loved. She'll use it to poop and sometime pee,
but even when peeing in the box, she will start squatted down and by the
time she's really peeing strong, she is standing straight up & it's shooting
out of the box! (that I don't mind so much...there are three layers of
towels before the carpet on that one.) When she started peeing on the walls
and in corners, we took her to vet three imes at least (I HATE when the
stick that needle in her bladder makes me want to cry) but they did, found
one small infection ONE time, we cured that, but a few weeks latter same
thing. The vet said she had her own cat that had what this is looked like,
cyctisis, a 'touchy" bladder, not infection, but it's something with her
bladder that will come& go her whole life. She has not had a drop of food
that isn't made for this condition in years, but this peeing keeps coming
back. Vet said truthfully, she ended up putting hers down after years of
trying to control it. But I CAN'T She is only 2 1/2 year old and my favorite
of the seven. She isn't in pain, just pees in wrong places.

She is on Cosequin once a day with wet food with this. She will eat it, but
we have six other cats that go insane if they don't get wet food, too. so
it's trying to fight them off till she gets hers w/the medicine and then
give them some cheaper Friskies wet food (the wet food fro the vet is 3
dollars a can!)  Has anyone heard of Cosequin coming in liquid, where i
could use an injector type to shoot it in her mouth? Works great with our
dogs infection meds and one of the cats old kidney infection. I'll call the
vet too of course, just wondering tonight. Thanks for any help.

We just redid our whole kitchen/dining room in laminate hard wood from
carpet because of this peeing problem and if anyone has any ideas of other
meds that have helped, ways to give those meds easier or ANY help...you'd be
in my prayers forever. My husband loves me very much and he does love the
cats, but the house is becoming more and more important to him as this crap
keeps happening and I dread the day he might say "It's her (or one of them)
or me" Merry Christmas to all & good health to us and our furbabies!

BTW, many thanks to my previous questions about how to keep my outside cat,
Killer, warm during the cold spell.
This newgroup is a lifesaver to animal lovers!

they do make high sided litterboxes.. that might keep the urine in the box
when she stands up to pee.  Cat Attract litter should help her use the box,
and not the rest of the house..

Add lots of water to the wet food.  Keeping a cat well hydrated is key to
keeping urinary issues at bay (if possible - as I know some times they come
regardless of your doing everything right)  Dry food makes the cat
dehydrated.. so canned and add extra water.  Canned really is the best all
around food for your kitties in general.  will help ward off a lot of
different health issues (see www.catinfo.org for more info. it is a site run
by a vet)

Since you have more than one cat, the question becomes, how many litterboxes
do you have?  if there aren't enough (the general recommendation is 1.5
litterboxes per cat.. some recommend 1 per cat plus one) she might not feel
comfortable using it when ever she has to, and thus holds it in for a while,
which can cause issues.  Try putting a few more litterboxes around the house
for a while and see if that helps.

there are non traditional medicines for pets now.. Maybe seeing a vet who
knows about herbs and acupuncture might be able to help as well.  And if you
are willing, there are animal communicators who might be able to 'read' your
cat and give you some insight into her behavior.

If you have to purchase a high-sided litter box or any litter
box for that matter, don't waste your money on overpriced
boxes in the pet stores.  I go to Walmart or K-Mart and
buy the polyethlene (plastic) storage boxes.   The cost is
sometimes as low as $4 for a large high-sided box, big
selection too.
