Question regarding my cat's eye

Gigglz - 13 Dec 2006 20:10 GMT My cat has had a watering eye for weeks on end. Tears run from it all day. Her eye is not red or irritated looking. The Vet checked her cornea, etc...and there are no scratches or any evidence of an injury. I even gave her antibiotic eye drops in case an infection was forming (although the Vet said she didn't currently have one). Nothing has changed this condition. It is just the one eye.
Any ideas?

I wonder if massaging that corner of her eye would unblock it?
Much appreciation!
.._.. - 13 Dec 2006 22:41 GMT You may want to try a round of oral antibiotics.
Complete application of drops to the eye can be a hit-or-miss propposition....
If it's clear, and not yellow-snot or dark-scabby looking it is probably not an infection though.

Gigglz - 14 Dec 2006 15:33 GMT That's what the Vet said. And it IS clear. I'll finish these eyedrops, and see what happens I guess. I'll ask the Vet about giving her some oral antibiotics just in case. He did say I could go ahead and massage that area where the tear duct is, so I'm trying that, too.
Thank you!

One of our cats, Mr. Bailey, has had this "condition" all of his life. He's around 6 years old now. We took him to two different vets, one of whon gave him a course of antibiotiecs and eyedrops, just to be on the safe side. It most likely is a blocked tear duct, and it really isn't harmful.
The son of one of our friends is a feline opthamologist. He recommended against having any procedure to unblock the duct because probing the tear duct to unblock it can sometimes result in scar tissue, which will make for a worse situation. We buy a product at PetSmart called "Tear Clear", which is a jar of sterile wet cleaning pads to cleans the corner of his eye and surrounding area.

Thank you so much! I'm starting to think that is exactly what this is! I will buy this, and keep massaging that corner of her eye as well!
Much appreciation!

Give that cute kitty a kiss from me :-)

The Vet checked her [quoted text clipped - 11 lines] > concerned it was maybe bothering her. I wonder if massaging that > corner of her eye would unblock it? I think you'd see the cat rubbing its eye if it was bothersome. I don't think you can get anywhere close to the duct in question.
Our current cat has a blocked duct but she also has one green eye and one blue eye. The blocked duct is on the blue eye. I'm not sure if the two things are related.
Gigglz - 14 Dec 2006 15:35 GMT >>>> My cat has had a watering eye for weeks on end. Tears run from it all >>>> day. Her eye is not red or irritated looking. The Vet checked her [quoted text clipped - 18 lines] >green eye and one blue eye. The blocked duct is on the blue >eye. I'm not sure if the two things are related. I actually did talk to the Vet yesterday, and he told me to massage the area where the nose and eye meet (corner of the eye) and it could unclog the tear duct, if it is that. So hey, I'll try anything! No, she doesn't rub her eye at all (thankfully).
Oh how cute...a cat with two different colored eyes!!! :-) Maybe you could try what my Vet told me to try...massaging that area.
Thanks!

I'll give it a try. Angel lets me touch her anywhere. First cat I ever had that doesn't go crazy if you touch her ears.
Let us know how you make out.

I've noticed that Lily is starting to show some improvement :-)
Thanks!!

Funny you say that! Our cat is exactly like that with her ears :-) LOL Just love those cats, don't we? :-)
Our cat puts her mouth over the microphone on my phone headset...and purrs to people on the phone! hahahahaha

Clockmeister - 17 Dec 2006 09:49 GMT >><snip> >> [quoted text clipped - 13 lines] > > p.s. tell me why your name is Clockmeister! :-) Imagine a dimly candle lit small room in which an elderly greying watchmaker quietly sits, surrounded by broken clocks and little tools patiently breathing life back into broken clocks.
I'm kinda like that except not old and with electronics and other small devices. The name seemed suitable ;-)
Gigglz - 17 Dec 2006 17:24 GMT >>><snip> >>> [quoted text clipped - 20 lines] >I'm kinda like that except not old and with electronics and other small >devices. The name seemed suitable ;-) Cool! :-)
I used to rebuild antique clocks for a living, before my spine went bad on me. :-( Yup, I did! But I wasn't in a dim room! LOL I have a workbench in my basement with all my clockmaker tools still neatly organized in hopes that some day, I will be able to go back to my work.
What type of small electronics do you repair? I love to repair things! Always have...since I was a kid. Used to do my own tune-ups on my very first car ('66 Chevy Caprice with a 283) :-)

> What type of small electronics do you repair? I love to repair > things! Always have...since I was a kid. Used to do my own tune-ups > on my very first car ('66 Chevy Caprice with a 283) :-) I'm a motor mechanic by trade but I would rather not work on cars in my spare time. I like making hardware hacking old computers like Amigas and other even older stuff like the C=64 and generally playing about and repairing stuff.
Finding the time these days is the hardest part though :-(
Gigglz - 18 Dec 2006 13:25 GMT >>>>><snip> >>>>> [quoted text clipped - 42 lines] > >Finding the time these days is the hardest part though :-( This is really interesting! I just got rid of most of my 'computer graveyard' in our basement recently. Still have some things, but it was a shame someone couldn't use it! I tried to give it away to a local computer place, but they didn't want it. Wahhhhhhhhhh! Still in our basement, sits the FIRST IBM PC. Monitor, keyboard and all. Ahhhhhhhh, the good old days! I went to school for computers in my early 40's. I used to build them for fun (in between clock work). Once again, the spine went...and so did many of my hobbies.
Wish you had more time to tinker!
Do you work on motors for a dealer?
Clockmeister - 23 Dec 2006 00:11 GMT >>>>>><snip> >>>>>> [quoted text clipped - 51 lines] > my early 40's. I used to build them for fun (in between clock work). > Once again, the spine went...and so did many of my hobbies. Interesting stuff. I used to mess with PC's as well but I've cut right back and I now exclusively mess with Amiga computers. It is a shame when you can't find a new home for old stuff but I have been lucky in that regard with out local classified paper and have rarely had to throw stuff out.
> Wish you had more time to tinker!
> Do you work on motors for a dealer? Well sort of, but I'm pretty much hands-off-tools these days. I run the internal used and new car department in the workshop which means and aside from training the youngsters, doing qouting/ordering/making out repair orders and time and job organisation I'm also the buffer between the sales department and the workshop. I'm often called to sort out other peoples problems in other departments even!
Bit of a hingepin, now that I read that back lol :-)
Gigglz - 14 Jan 2007 00:50 GMT >>>>>>><snip> >>>>>>> [quoted text clipped - 57 lines] >lucky in that regard with out local classified paper and have rarely had to >throw stuff out. I don't know what's wrong with the people in this city! You'd think they would WANT freebees!

It's just an allergic reaction to something....Eye drops work for me, as k the vet if there are re hydrating drops for cats. Might be they/it are/is just dry. Best of luck. Kathy
