Erk.

I think I might have bitten off more than I can chew.

My supervisor just called and asked me to take one of two cats, to free up
some cage space. I said I'd take both. So now I'm running around, trying to
figure out how to get four carriers and a number of litterboxes back to the
HS, figure out how many boxes and what equipment I'll need to borrow (food
dishes, sturdy water bowls, kinds of food) so that I have what I need for
the new kitties as well as the current fosters.

The silly thing is that I have a relatively small one bedroom apartment that
the landlord allows me to own two cats in, but was kind enough to let me
foster as well. And with these two new cats (one of them not really new, but
that's a different story), I'll have seven cats in this apartment. At this
point, I'm just grateful that my two girls are well-adjusted enough to be
cranky about all the activity... but have never developed behavioral issues
over it!

Anyway. Some of you were delightful enough to ask for updates (and we all
love to talk about our fuzzy friends), so I thought I'd update!

Always room for one more, apparently.  Heart of gold!  That's a lot of pussycats in your space --
where do YOU sleep?   MLB

I sleep on the futon, usually hedged in by cats, of course.

Okay. Here's an interesting situation.

My second and third fosters were a pair, and as I tend to see in pairs, one
of them was far more aggressive (not in a bad way), and the other was very
submissive, very thin, and a little older. I took them because they were
surrendered, not eating, and starting to develop URI.

They went back when they got better, then we ran out of cage space so I took
them back. During this stay, the aggressive cat turned aggressive in a bad
way. She attacked -both- of my owned cats, the dominant one twice, and even
punctured her in the back, by her hips. I had to separate them in the
apartment. Eventually, cages opened up and they went back again. This time,
shortly after they went back, they were separated from each other because
the dominant cat was bullying (hissing, growling, and swiping) the
submissive cat. Shortly after that, she bit a human. After her quarantine,
she was euthanised because she's proven that she is quite aggressive (which
I can explain, if anyone wants me to).

The submissive cat, however, blossomed. She gained weight, came out of her
shell. The problem? Now SHE's becoming aggressive. She was, if not highly
affectionate, highly tolerant of my cats. She was supposed to be moved into
the multiple cat room, but she was hissing at the other cats just going by
cages. I brought her home again (she's the new, not-new foster), and she's
relaxed enough to climb in my lap and wander around and eat and all, but
I've already caught her stalking the male I'm fostering, and she's swatted
the little female, and hissed at both of mine.

I can't help but think that she's determined to do the bullying so as not to
be bullied again, but does anyone else have any ideas as to why a timid,
sweet, social lapcat would turn into a cranky old bat within a couple of
weeks?

I had a day where I thought that too recently :)

I have my four, and every weekend my boyfriend comes up (he lives far to
the south of the state) from Saturday through Wednesday with his two, and
his dog.  I use four litter boxes, mainly because George is afraid of
Misty and I had to put one in his little corner of the apartment so he
could poop in peace (and not on the floor!).  George has had stress
related problems since h0p first got sick.  Good luck with your crew, I
think that what you're doing is great!
