My Ragdoll cat is faced with either having one of his back legs removed or
they can " stiffen " his leg.....he will have no movement at the ankle....
my question is.....which would be best for him in the long run?
Anyone have any experience with this?
Has had several operations to save the leg.....nothing has worked..

I have absolutely no experience with this, but it seems to me that removal
might be the best option. Many cats get along well with 3 legs, but
stiffening the leg in the way you describe might make it difficult (or
impossible) to have normal movement in the other leg -- that is, I think it
would place even more stress on the good leg (and probably the spine) than
removal. That said, I would want to consult a veterinary specialist and
take his or her advice. You also might want to post this question on
alt.med.veterinary because this procedure is not something that should be
undertaken without expert advice.

Cats adapt very well and very quickly to only having three legs.
