It seems to me I spend enough on cat food to try and source a
wholesaler that can ship direct to my house. Looking for both wet
(large cans) and dry food from "mid-quality" name brands in multi-case
quantities. Anyone have any leads?

Be sure you don't buy more dry food than you can use before it goes
stale.  Finding a wholesaler who will deliver to a retail customer
might be difficult, but you can probably get a better price on case
lots and several large bags from a discount grocer with a house brand.
I feed Walmart's house brand (Special Kitty) dry to my fifteen cats
and they are all in excellent condition, except for one who was obese
when I got him and one who has a heart condition as well as old age.
The stuff even grows oversize kittens (nine pounds at seven months).

I buy Special Kitty brand, too. Essentially, I rotate brands and
flavors to keep things interesting for the meowsers. I drop about 400
bucks a month in food and litter, so I'm just looking for ways to hack
that down if possible.

How many cats are you supporting?

I have fifteen, but most of them use the big litter box with the blue
ceiling (outdoors).

  Almost triple your number.

I go through four of those 28-pound boxes of Special Kitty litter a
week. Most of mine are indoors. I have two that are allowed in my
house.

I couldn't manage it if they all used litter pans regularly.

I don't understand "indoor" in the context of not being allowed in the
house.

I built them their own 36x12 cathouse against the backside of a
detached cinderblock garage. Ten feet high, A/C, heat, insulated,
30-year roofing, chain-link enclosed outside lounging area. I mounted
old kitchen cabinets and shelves to make a multi-level habitat, which
cuts down ground-level skirmishes a lot. Best thing is that they are
free to destroy the old furniture and mattresses because I'll just toss
the stuff and go get some more.  Plus I can use the kitty whip without
damaging anything valuable.

I read somewhere that you can buy litter in bulk - a quick check with
Google turned up lots of leads: search pattern

 "cat litter" bulk

Some of the links seem also to lead to wholesale food.
