Do cats ever get upset when you reject their gifts (of prey)?

Tonight our cat returned home with a live mouse in its mouth.  It dropped
the mouse at our feet, whereupon the mouse ran, and then it picked the
mouse up again.  We picked up the cat and placed it back outside, not
wanting the mouse running around inside.

Since then, the cat is acting different.  He went back out and when he
returned, rather than meow to be let in and run in when the door was opened
as always, he simply sat there, and I had to convince him to come in.  Now
that he's in, he's really quiet, and also a little more jumpy than usual.

Out of curiosity, do you think our cat is upset at our not accepting its
gift?  I'm quite curious about cat behaviour, so I had to ask.  :)

Cat's experience similar emotions to people, happy, sad, anger, love,
depression... ect, so chances are you hurt his feelings.

My Pumpkin gets praised for what he brings in - but not wanting the
mess in the huse, I try to get the prey in a paper towel and put it
outside.  In the garden if still alive (lizards, anyway) and in the
trash if dead.  Pumpkin usually spends a couple of hours looking for
his whatever..........and sometimes takes off outdoors in a snit, but
he forgives me by the next day.  To date: numerous lizards, couple of
huge grasshoppers (locusts?), one baby bird, couple of mice and one
young rat.  Very dead rat.  Partly eaten rat.  Ugggg. Out to the trash.
But it's his nature and I don't like mice any more than he does.
