Cat swallowed ribbon

I know this question has been asked before , but I have a little
different spin on it.  One of my Two cats swallowed  a 10 inch piece of
thin ribbon.  Problem is, I have no idea which cat did it.  One minute
they were playing with it, the next minute about 10 inches were chewed
off and gone.  (Please no scolding, I know NOW that I shouldn't have
let them play with a ribbon unsupervised.)

I decided to just watch them both like a hawk, because I am pretty sure
there is nothing a vet can really do short of cutting them both open.
I started giving them both a little Vaseline (as suggested here many
times,) yet 1 week later, no sign of the ribbon.  Also, no sign of any
symptoms.  They are both eating an pooping fine.

What am I to think?

instead of eating it, they hid it really well?  or it was digested just fine
and was completely surrounded by stool (did you cut into it?)

After 1 week, I think you are fine.  For an FYI, you can feed a cat standard
OTC hydrogen peroxide to get it to vomit, but you need to do it pretty
quickly after a questionable ingestion, and make sure that you won't do more
damage by making them vomit.

After this time? Cat probably removed ribbon by dumping it in the
litter and you didn't find it...

When Dunzi was small she ate about 6 inches of bootlace.. we only
noticed when Dave thought she had a bit of s**t stuck to her and then
realised it was the end of the bootlace hanging  out of her rear end.
Mass panic! As I headed back home ready for a trip to the vet she went
to the box and we think cr**ped it out- it's not the sort of thing you
want to investigate closer! But she did produce a long thin mess of the
right length. We still weren't sure until gritting our teeth we DID
investigate closer and found the bootlace (Nope we didn't use it again)
in her cr*p. Given that at the time the bootlace was as long as she was
(Minus the tail) we were surprised and counted ourselves very lucky
that it didn't twist inside her

Our 6 month old cat somehow managed to remove a 40" sport shoelace from a
shoe that was in the closet and then swallow the entire thing.  We didn't
know it until we saw something sticking out from her butt.  We weren't
exactly sure what it was at first and tried to gently tug it, but it
wouldn't budge.  We got her quickly to the vet.  He told us that worst case
she would need surgery, but would try other methods first.  After an oily
based enema, she was able to pass it and was perfectly fine afterwards.  We
couldn't believe she ate "the whole thing"!

my parents had a cat that ate some bologna with the rine(sp) still on it. one
day they noticed he was dragging his behind on the floor, and my dad
accidentally stepped on the rine hanging out of the cat's arse and the cat
took off. he was fine. after it's this long i wouldn't worry, but i wouldn't
suggest letting them play with ribbon anymore unless you watch them like a
hawk. it could wreak havok in their intestines.

Try to make absolutely sure that it isn't lying around shoved
under the sofa or something.  If you really can't find any
evidence, you should mention this to your vet.  Though
it's highly unlikely that there would be no symptoms by
this time, there is always the remote possibility that it
couldn't get past the pylorus of the stomache, in which
case it is sitting in there.  The vet may want to take
a look, or films.  Same way hairballs build up.  It might
cause vomiting, and should have by now, but you should
try to be sure.  Ten inches is pretty long, and if it were
in the poop, it would have likely dragged along, it's
not too likely it would get out without your noticing.

Good luck, and let us know.
