Kitten and toilet paper

My kitten(8 months) has an obsession with the toilet paper roll. If I
have it dispensing from the top, she'll unroll the whole thing. If I
dispense it from the bottom, she'll mangle the whole thing on the
spindle. If I leave the roll off the spindle, it just gets mangled and
shredded all over the bathroom floor, the hall way, the living room
floor, etc. Any advise on curbing this behavior short of hiding the TP?

I wish I knew the answer to this one.  My cat will destroy the toilet paper
roll.  And now he's started to destroy the box of kleenex.  Yesterday, I
came home only to find all the kleenex pulled out of the box and in a pile
on the floor.  The box itself was torn up a bit too.

There is no answer.  Hide the toilet paper.  I have to put mine in the
medicine cabinet.  I have friends with cats who have to put theirs away too.
My cat likes all things that are paper.

Our toilet paper roll upstairs in the main bathroom is behind a trash
can which is wedged between the toilet and the vanity. She can't get
around it and she can't get around the toilet - or doesn't try upstairs.
She hasn't taken an interest in the toilet paper yet in the smaller
bathroom (touch wood...)

I used to pet-sit for some relatives and one of their
cats shredded toilet paper and paper towels. Both had to
be hidden in a cabinet and the cabinet "locked" because
Ginger also liked to open things. Frequently I'd come in
after work and there would be clothing in the hallway
where she'd opened a drawer/closet/hamper and fished it
out and carried it around the house. Big things, too,
like once she pulled a bath towel off the rod and dragged
it downstairs. One day I forgot to lock the kitchen
cabinet where the paper towels were kept and came home
to a huge mess in three different rooms. She unrolled
the whole roll, apparently dragging it from room to room
(almost like kids "TP'ing" a house), then shredded a
bunch of it, and the tube. At least it kept her out of
the underwear drawer that day. :)

She grew out of the habit. Maybe yours will, too.

I remember Snagglepuss who learned how to put a paw under
the refrigerator door and pull it open, but never closed
it after checking to see if the light inside was still on.

I wonder whether there are refrigerators at the RB.

Mount the roll so it feeds next to the wall - that takes care of most
TP pullers.  The other problems can be addressed by putting a small,
soft and light, bowl od water on top of the roll so that when it's
disturbed, it dumps water on the cat.  It has to be soft and light so
it can't cut or bruise the cat, and fairly small so it will balance.
A small plastic storage container should work.  I've had a lot of cats
over the last 35 or so years, but I have had to take it that far only
twice.

1.  Hide the TP.
2.  Post a sign advising guests where to look.  (VERY IMPORTANT!)

Cats are secretly recruited by major paper manufacturers to do this.

It has been said in this group that cats do not like citru small and for
that reason it makes a good cat repelant.  Perhaps a small plug-in citrus
deoderizer would discourage the cat from going into the bath room.

Citrus scented toilet paper might have the same or maybe better effect.

Am I the only one thinking, shut the toilet door!!!

My mother had this problem and I asked her the same question and no, she
hadn't thought to do that...*sigh*
Also a ceramic toilet roll holder is a great way to go.That way the spare
rolls can remain in the bathroom unmangled. :)
