Yep, that's the problem with mine too. she wants to be petted only when she
wants to be petted. But, when she's lying on her back with her paws up,
staring at me, and meowing at me, I know I can pet her. But, even then,
when she's had enough she goes into attack mode and I have to move quickly!!
Look for signs like becoming rigid, ears going back, a sudden movement and
then going back to how she was lying before, eyes widening. Mine can do
all of those things within 2 seconds, so you have to be on the look out!

my kitty KoKo likes to bite too, but usually not very hard. he doesnt use
his claws, but if he bitse too hard, then i go away for a while.
