OCD Plagued Housecat?

Hello, group. Six cats share our home and get along well enough, but
the yearling female who recently weaned an only kitten has suddenly
started to shred paper as energetically as a dog pulverizes foam
rubber. She also shreds tough cardboard boxes. We have to be
continually vigilant to not leave valuable printouts, mail and files
laying about.

Is this a commonly recognized disorder? What would an animal
psychologist say about it?

Thanks, Echosyn

We have a couple that go apeshit over toilet paper rolls, or even a roll of
paper towels.  They must KILL that evil roll!  I remember one morning waking
up to a 2-foot-high pile of shredded paper towel.  They slept well that day,
having worn themselves out during the night!

I would recommend placing the tiolet roller up on the wall just high enough
to be out of reach, such solved the problem for me

I have one that goes nuts over shoes.....If either my wife or I leave our
shoes on the floor overnight, she plays with them, and carries them all over
the house.....Fortunately, she doesn't tear them up, although she will take
the gell-rubber inserts out of them.......

Hmmm.....in order to place a toilet roll out of reach
of my cats, it would have to be placed so high
it would be out of reach of me!

Both of my cats do the same thing!  I have a cardboard box in almost every
room that they go to town on everyday (I figure it is better the boxes than
my couches) and my younger one has a thing for q-tips (have not quite figured
that one out yet).  As far as the toilet paper, I know that my parent's cat
shreds rolls like they are going out of style. Perfectly normal behavior  :)

Back in the seventies I had a wonderful  bloodhound, Luke, who had a thing
for toilet paper. You had to be careful lest you leave the bathroom door and
find toilet paper spread throughout the house. If Luke was with me when I
visited with a dog loving friend that friend was warned to shut the bathroom
doors. Worse than the toilet paper was that Luke's ultimate pleasure was to
find a disposed of sanitary napkin which he would parade around the house
with, his jaws vice-gripped around it.

Sounds like she is being a cat to me.
I haven't left a roll of toilet paper or paper towel roll anywhere out in
the open for over 40 years

Remember we are their slaves not the other way around

Exactly,

Dogs have masters, cats have staff.

Mine goes ape sh.t for toilet paper, fax paper, cardboard, tin foil,
paper towel, and cellophane wrap.
