Hi...My cat is about 5years old and was spayed when she was about 1 yr
old. When she is being stroked vigorously she sprays some sort of
yellowish fluid. It does smell, but not like urine and the smell
doesn't last. It does, however, make us very cautious when stroking
her. Whats all that about and is it normal??

It's an anal gland of some sort.  It's "supposed" to smell. (Think skunk
type thing, maybe more for sexual signalling rather than defense.)

I have heard places that it can be "cleaned" by a vet.

Be carefull you are not pulling on the skin at all when you pet or brush, it
helps avoid getting "sprayed" like that.

I think it's normal.

I have heard of anal glands getting blocked, at least she will never
have that problem. Thanks for the info........Yvonne
