I was reading an article which states the following:
"Onions, Garlic, & Related Root Vegetables"
Onions contain a substance (N-propyl disulphide) which destroys red
blood cells in the cat, causing a form of anemia called Heinz body
anemia. Garlic contains a similar substance in a lesser amount."
It is on this page: http://cats.about.com/cs/catfood/a/humanfood.htm
A statement on a cat food website states the following in regards to
their ingredients: "whole clove Gilroy-grown garlic (high in
selenium) "
I have been using a Garlic and Brewer's yeast powder sprinkled on my
cat's food for awhile (flea control) and am now wondering if this is a
good thing. The label lists amounts to use for both dogs and cats.
I am getting worried about the garlic thing. Could anyone provide
some enlightenment???

Sorry should have added that a lot of products used to have those items
in there and approved it. But since then it has shown to do what the
articles say. Dogs as far as my understandment goes is ok.
Brewer's yeast is fine to my understanding it helps the cats coat
Try advantage for cats it does the job

yup.. they are considered very bad for cats, and you really shouldn't use
them (and I have been told they aren't very effective anyway)
So with all this proof out there that garlic is bad, someone please explain
to me why 'premium' cat food companies put garlic in their food??
Btw.. Tomatoes are also not good for cats..

Tell that to my pasta sauce loving cats - they lick the sauce off the
meat and ignore the meat.

why are tomatoes bad for cats? my cat has a tomato-fetish. not that he
eats them...just likes to play with them. i can't leave any tomatoes on the
counter. he has bit into a few but never really ate one.
