Anyone know how to get your cat to stop sleeping with you - and waking
you up at 3am because she wants to know if you're still alive? We have a
kitten (about 4 months old) who has been sleeping with either my
daughter (who has the litter box and the kitten's primary food dish in
her room) or me ( I have no kitten stuff in my room except me). The
kitten, Woodgie, will come over and get right in my face. Now I am
allergic, but don't have a real problem - until she gets right in my
face. Same wit the daughter, who has taken to squirting Woodgie when she
gets in her face - then she comes in my room...Sigh. We have a night
light by the litter box so she can find it at night. Any reasonable
suggestions? BTW, the claws are not a lot of fun at night either...At
least she hasn't gotten to my face with them.
Thanks.

Move the kitten's litter box and food into a different room. Keeping the
litter box in your daughter's bedroom is not sanitary. I suggest you
keep both in a bathroom. That's what I do for my cat, who's nearly 20
and its never been a problem.

After you move the cat stuff out of your daughter's bedroom, simply
close her bedroom door at night before she goes to sleep, or after.
Close your bedroom door too.

Make up a comfy area outside of your bedrooms for your kitten to sleep.

I'd never not want my cats to sleep with me. Maybe provide more
playtime?  Simple pets will do a lot to calm down a cat that wants
attention. Good luck.

I agree.  My cat grew out of the feisty sleep time stage.  When she was a
kitten she'd bat at my nose at all times of night, but she loved to curl up
on my chest and lick my nose afterwards and fall back asleep.  I think it's
cute that she wants to sleep with me :)  And, she's very independent, so
that's about the only time she's completely just being cozy with me.  I've
had her shut out a couple times and I felt badly about it, but at the time I
just had to get some sleep.  Your cat will grow out of the massing with you
when you're asleep phase.  But, if it really bothers you, just close your
doors and make cat bed for the cat.  I'd say that's better than the getting
mad at the cat thing or squirting it in the middle of the night thing.

Start trimming her claws now. You can ask your vet or a groomer to show you
how.

I agree! Do it now!!! My cat hates it when I trim her nails! Get her used to
it now.
