how to name a cat? it's not easy.  well especially if naming a female puddy
cat.

we have a new addition to our household.  a beautiful 5 month old female
tortoiseshell.

I can't decide on a name.

could you help me by telling me the names of your current / previous female
moggies? I will then try to see if any of your suggestions suit her
character.

Flippy sometimes posts to rec.pets.cats.anecdotes.  She has a web page with
more than 5,400 names of cats, and she tries to include the names of cats of
everyone who posts to rpca.  You might want to look at that site for ideas.

All our cats have been female except Speedy Joe- named by a previous
slave

So we've had Fugazi (Gaz-Gaz), Isis (Issi) both RB

And we now have Redunzel (Dunzi) and Sarrasine (Sarsi)

Most people assume they must have been very expensive pedigree cats
with names like that in fact they are moggies- I am not keen on people
who say "If it's a black cat call it Sooty, Blackie etc". All their
names have specific meanings and suit them

I have had one tortie & white (Zildjian), and two
calicoes (Sarah & Meeka).

Meeka only lived for about one week after we got her
as a new kitten, she died of one of the nasty feline
pneumonias, I don't remember which one, as I was a
teenager (not telling how long ago *that* was!)

Fluffy (long hair B/W), Punkin (calico), Lindesfarne (tabby),
Maryweather (calico), Snowball (white), Millicent (Millie - apricot),
Corrie (essentially black), Rover (red tabby), Beau (red tabby), Fido
(red tabby), Sieglinde (red tabby), Bitsy (B/W), Cricket (ugly),
Dumpling (LH calico), Angel (B/W), Ming Toi (gray), Mother
(gray/white), Tabatha (tabby)

I also like Solange (for an elegant cat) and Myia.

For several years, I gave cats names of animal characters in web
comics - I have a partial list of comics with cats (along with the
cats' names) at
<http://gearbox.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/cat_comics.html>.

There is a list of cat names at

On my Catpage there are lists of everyone who posts to the various Cat
Newsgroups [except people who have not given me their details, of
course].  There are a few hundred of them, and there are over 1000 names
of cats there.  See

       http://blakjak.com/hpcop_ad.htm

You could try looking at Dave Ratcliffe's Catnames List, with over
6000 names.  See

       http://www.microserve.com/~dave/catnames.html

Flippy has a list of cat names on her site, provided by people on the
newsgroups, with over 3500 names.  See

       http://www.flippyscatpage.com/catnames.html

There is a site called "Get a Random Cat Name" and that does just
that, with the name changing every few seconds.  Why not visit?  See

       http://www.alistair.com/catname

Another site with over 15000 names is
